The Best In Me Young Adult Program!
Gwendolen D. Martin is the visionary behind The Best in Me Young Adult Program, a housing and training initiative designed to empower young men as they transition into adulthood. With over four decades of experience in education, youth services, and behavioral health, she brings unmatched dedication, compassion, and expertise to her work.
Her professional journey began at Lake Grove School in New York in 1978, where she advanced from Secretary to Residential Manager, gaining over 10 years of leadership experience in youth residential care. She went on to expand her training and expertise at Timber Ridge School and is currently employed as a Special Education Teacher North Spring Behavioral Healthcare, where she continues to support and guide young people every day.

Alongside her career, Gwendolen pursued higher education to strengthen her ability to serve. She holds an Associate of Science in Liberal Arts from Lord Fairfax Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadershipfrom Mountain State University, and a Master of Arts in Special Education from Liberty University.
Today, Gwendolen channels her lifelong passion into The Best in Me Young Adult Program and Uncle Willie’s Place, honoring her late uncle’s legacy by providing affordable housing, career training, life-skills development, and mentorship. Under her leadership, the program connects young men with vocational certifications in high-demand trades such as HVAC, CDL, welding, barbering, and more — while offering the stability, structure, and community support they need to succeed.
Her vision is simple but powerful: to see every young adult discover the best in themselves and step boldly into a future of independence, responsibility, and hope.
